We consider gender as an intersectional term, examining how it functions in the context of other categories of embodiment such as race, class, sexuality, ability, age, and other dimensions. Our focus is on media representation of gender in terms of roles, identities, sexualities, and structures of power in a patriarchal context. We analyze the construction of gender through various media forms, concentrating on the gendered dynamic of looking in visual media such as film/television, game, photography and fashion.
