POHI 323 Genocides
This seminar delves into the intentional attempts by organized groups, from state authorities to local political leaders, to destroy, in whole or in part, the members of a particular national, ethnic, religious, or racial group. Topics include debates concerning the meaning of the term genocide and its political uses and abuses, as well as modern case studies ranging from the Ottoman genocide of the Armenians in WWI, to the Holocaust of WWII and Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s.
